Meet Joanna

Thank you for stopping by! I’m Joanna, a Maryland native who loves curating and creating beautiful pieces for the people I love.

Growing up, I never thought of myself as creative, having always been surrounded by so many artistically talented friends. However, art was ever-present in my life. At home, my mom’s art collection connected me to our family’s Taiwanese culture. And my best friends filled my childhood with countless sleepovers hand-making cards for our church community and scrapbooks for each other.

These fond memories taught me all the ways art can build a home, bring people together, spread joy, and serve others.

Joanna Hope Art is simply my love letter to my family, friends, and this wonderful community. And I hope through this small business of mine, I can continue to share that joy and create for you in all seasons of life.

Fun Facts

  1. Childhood friends call me Jo or Jojo.

  2. If I’m not painting, you’ll most likely find me going for a run outside or exploring with my husband and our dog.

  3. I am an avid reader and usually read around 30 - 40 books a year.

  4. I was a competitive swimmer when I was younger. And while I’m not much of an athlete now, I’m still the happiest when I’m around water.

  5. My childhood friends and I started a stationary “company” called “spazmonkeys” in middle school. While we have thankfully since abandoned that brand, we are still best friends to this day.

A defining Moment

On March 13, 2018 I was a victim of a violent robbery & assault while walking home from work in SF. The trauma left me with PTSD and significant but short-term physical injuries, ultimately leading me and my husband to move back to the DC area. In this new season, I’ve experienced the healing power of creating, the joys of serving, the importance of accepting help and care with open arms. Sometimes it’s in seasons of suffering where we need art and encouragement the most. I hope to remember the lessons I learned in this valley and aspire to bring others the same hope in all circumstances of life.
